Damage to Big Basin

This is the damage to Big Basin in the vicinity of the visitor center. The take away? Most of these trees still have enough crown to survive. Some of the big ones are relatively unscathed and you can see unburnt fuel on the ground such as logs and even signs for the trees. The intensity seemed to vary from area to area as one would expect. Some trees are down. The park will survive and the good news is this is the worst it will look. Each month that goes by we will see recovery. No word on the rest of the park as of yet. – John Harvey
