I smelled the Wild Rose bushes blooming in front of the Children’s Wilderness School,
I noticed the resident turtles were happily sunning on the logs on the South East side of their pond,
I heard a smattering of chattering of the Mallards while the Wood Ducks and Canadian Goose looked on,
I observed two Nutrias swim with branches to fortify their burrow near the Suds Creek intersection to Salmon Creek,
I tried unsuccessfully to get a good photo of several encounters with fast moving Black capped Chickadees and Bushtits,
I managed a photo of a Spotted Towhee, that I invariably mistake for Robins,
And then I passed several Robins in the grassy areas by the baseball fields,
I heard of the Owl in the trees near the 1 Mile marker,
I spotted a single deer 300 yards across the drying first meadow, casually eating grass,
I listened to a cacophony of bird song echoing in several dense forested areas,
I watched the inert Blue Heron camouflaged in the tall reeds near the beaver nest,
I craned my neck to follow the flight of the Osprey in the field by the 2 mile mark,
I was delighted at the sight of several dragonflies and a solitary butterfly hovering in sunlight before the bridge,
I walked quietly without disturbing a Stellar Jay at work on a lower tree branch,
I smiled with recognition of several glades of Buttercups and Wild Chervil in glorious bloom,
I felt a cooling breeze along the path through the foxtail field,
I counted two frogs in the small algae topped puddle they call home,
I passed Mark and his dog Eddie heading home,
I caught you both coming and going today, Melanie and Fred, with your cute black dog,
And yes, as you pointed out, I may forget your names by tomorrow,
I guess we know where my brains’ priorities are ☺
