each spring brings this feeling to me renewed...
the trees
have grown through wind and winter
small branch ends
have shown, unprotected in the snow
the pointed tips
have become round, brown and hard
encasing their foliage
when gentle spring, with a sucking hand
unlocks the green
spring has arrived
the following story is from March 2011

tomatomania.com has arrived at Tapia Farms this week-end for 3 days in the valley. intense anticipation precedes this event, but i am ready
each spring brings this feeling to me renewed…

after claiming 3 tomato plants, some foliar tea, one 4 x 8 raised bed and worm casings…it is through the kindness of friends that i am able to procure the soil to “make it happen”. an i am seasonally thankful to them

Here is the bare-naked dirt. i spent several hours today removing the top weeds that spring rains unlocked.

Here is the first (of two) raised beds assembled.

It appears that it takes a fair amount of dirt to fill those raised beds. I’ve got my work cut out for me.

The first lucky plants to grace this years plantings include beets 3 heirloom tomatoes.

ahh yes, i can't return home without a nod to the neighbor's dogs- 2 beautiful retrievers, who have trained me to give them treats upon my return home.
and i leave you with this poem, which was written some 40 years ago at the onset of spring.
