Nov. 2, 1920

This Day in History: Starting today out at Susan B. Anthony’s resting place here at Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester, NY. It was on this day in 1872 when Ms. Anthony illegally cast her vote in the presidential election just a couple of miles from here. It led to her arrest two weeks later, she was eventually fined $100 for voting illegally. Ms. Anthony responded “I shall never pay a dollar of your unjust penalty.” And she never did. 48 years later, with the passing of the 19th amendment, women were granted the right to vote. Some 8 million women voted on that November 2nd, 1920. (Photo by John Kucko)
