Western Bagels

a true and delicious Valley classic!

In 1947 David Ustin opened the first Bagel bakery at 324 West Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles. It’s here that David developed a bagel that was softer and chewier than the typical dense and harder East Coast bagel.

In 1958 Western Bagel relocated to its current location at 7814 Sepulveda Boulevard in Van Nuys. Restaurants and delis began selling Western Bagels, helping the company to grow. Eventually David’s son, Steven, joined the business and bought out his father’s surviving partner and is now President. David passed on in 1997 but Steven still helms this family owned business. To the delight of their loyal customers they’ve expanded to 11 locations. Western Bagel is a true Valley Relic that still serves the Valley today!
